Three delivery experience trends

The sun shines on Piotr Zaleski

We asked our CEO and Co-Founder Piotr Zaleski about three main delivery experience trends of 2021.

  1. Differentiated pricing. Delivery has traditionally been free of charge within the e-commerce industry. We believe this is about to change. Delivery is transforming into an area with highly differentiated prices and delivery options. This allows the merchants to lower the cost pressure of logistics and actually make some profit on deliveries, which has not been the case for many years.
  2. Parallel shopping. Covid-19 has changed consumer behaviour for good, and the increased shopping online is here to stay. More and more consumers are now shopping goods in parallel across different merchants, which creates a need for coordinating the shopping experience across varied orders, checkout processes and delivery methods. When shopping online from one merchant and then moving to another, the consumer expects both of these merchants to understand how these deliveries can adjust to their life patterns. Merchants have to collaborate with each other by combining their delivery options, tracking, etcetera we expect this co-delivery component to gain strength already in the next few years.
  3. Delivery first. Typically, the delivery offer belongs to the checkout process something you reach at the end of the consumer journey. However, many consumers shop based on the delivery experience. They want to know which products and which merchants offer the most convenient, cheapest and fastest delivery option before reaching the checkout .

We are moving towards the delivery-first society, and merchants need to re-think their delivery experience in order to match their customers’ needs. Shopping online should be as simple and convenient as traditional retail used to be. Merchants need to reduce the consumer anxiety and provide a much better shopping experience through intelligent choice of delivery options and flexible last mile deliveries every time.

Ingrid is a platform for e-commerce merchants. We help our clients increase profit margins and offer their consumers smarter deliveries. Ingrid is at the front of the society’s global shift towards a delivery-driven shopping experience — what we call the ‘delivery-first’ society.
